Christiane Murdey
Expertise & Specializations
Christiane holds a Diploma of Counselling from the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. She is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with experience in and a passion for supporting individuals navigating life’s stressors, emotional and relational struggles, life transitions, identity questions, and the challenge of reconnecting with their own worth and resilience.
Originally from Germany, Christiane has lived and worked in the United States, Malaysia, and Australia before she eventually made Newfoundland home. These experiences shape her respect for each client’s background, individual stories, and appreciation for the diverse ways people adapt, cope, and create meaning. Christiane brings a non-judgmental presence and a genuine curiosity about who her clients are beyond the problems they’re facing.
Christiane approaches counselling with the belief that healing grows in spaces of trust, collaboration, and genuine human connection. She works from a strongly person-centred foundation, drawing on narrative therapy, somatic and experiential approaches, Internal Family Systems-informed parts work, and mindfulness-based practices. As a trauma-informed practitioner, she also integrates EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) when appropriate to support clients in gently processing and reducing the impact of painful or overwhelming experiences. When helpful, she incorporates evidence-based tools from cognitive behavioural, dialectical behavioural, and acceptance and commitment therapy to support clients in building practical skills and clarity in their day-to-day lives. This flexible style allows her to tailor sessions to each client’s unique goals, preferences, and lived experience, and support clients in choosing what feels right for them—whether that’s structured strategies, creative or movement-based interventions, or a more reflective, exploratory space.
At Momentum Health, Christiane is excited to contribute to an integrated mind–body model of care, helping clients build resilience and connect more fully with themselves and their well-being. She strives to make the therapeutic space not only effective but also grounded, human, and genuinely enjoyable – where clients can exhale, feel understood, and explore new possibilities.
Outside the therapy room, Christiane enjoys exploring Newfoundland’s beautiful trails and unpredictable weather, spending time with her husband and four teenagers, training her dog (who she hopes will join her in the therapy room in future), drumming and music, and discovering more of what this province has to offer.
